although, I'm standing by my vow...
Although I'm standing by my vow to never "hate" on a member of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, I can't pretend that I'm happy with this statement, which couldn't have been a stupider thing to be said after getting DESTROYED by the Detroit Tigers last night:
On what's ahead in the offseason, Johnny Damon said, ``That's up for [GM Brian Cashman] and George Steinbrenner to address. The move to get me here was huge in shifting the balance of power in the division to the Yankees."
I get it. We (the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox) finished 3d this year in the AL East. Not a cool thing. But it's not like Johnny was in Boston during all the first 9 season where we finished 2d to the MFY's 1st place. He came in 2002...CERTAINLY he helped our team win the World Series, but honestly, to say that his was the move that shifted the balance of power is a little bloated-headed. I mean, they haven't done any better (or worse) since he showed up. That the Sox didn't finish in 2d again (which I think is a good thing...for a later post) had more to do with losing almost EVERY position player for an extended stretch and losing many of our starting pitchers (including one to lymphoma...). So, while I still refuse to "hate" on Johnny Damon. I will post a link to the video that Graham recently posted on The Massachusetts Liberal.
