MRI: Good News

Mri Ok, DiNardo fans, good news on the neck front.  Jeff Horrigan from the Herald is reporting that Lenny's MRI has shown no serious injury:

The results were encouraging, however, on pitcher Lenny DiNardo, who was placed on the disabled list last week with a neck strain.

"They were checking for a bulging disk and came back with good results," Francona said

120x240symptom0111Here's a quick shout out to Lenny. Hope you're feeling better, guy. As I'm sure you've heard, DiNardo has landed on the disabled list with a bum neck. Stetch it out, Lenny, and get back on that horse.

(In honor of Lenny's injury, I thought I'd bring back the old, useless WebMD symptom checker that they cart out during the playoffs. Like when someone has a blister, they highlight the entire arm....useful stuff -- it really illustrates the injury for me -- see how they do "head/neck" as an injury -- I love it).

Oof II

Lennyout2 I'll take the blame for the loss yesterday. I foolishly wore my Red Sox cap to my law school commencement ceremony, just inviting the Baseball gods to make DiNardo's life miserable.

Here's his line from yesterday:

Boston IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
DiNardo (L, 1-2) 2.0 7 4 4 2 2 0 7.11

And just to make matters worse -- his one at-bat...he stuck out swinging. At least he was taking his swings.

The Globe indicates that Lenny's time as the #5 starter may be over, with Wells making a decentView this photo start in AAA and DiNardo getting hit hard:

Understudy to David Wells? The role calls for a lefthanded Bluto or Blutarski, a Chris Farley, or a Jack Black.

But for the better part of seven weeks, that job has fallen to Lenny DiNardo -- slender, polite, urbane, full head of hair -- a checklist of attributes that falls well short of summoning images of the pitcher whose place in the Red Sox rotation he has held since the start of the season.

DiNardo's days of keeping the

warm for Wells appear to be rapidly coming to an end, however. DiNardo, who had gone two weeks between appearances, failed to get out of the third inning in yesterday afternoon's 10-5 loss to the Phillies, who broke a five-game losing streak behind five RBIs from Bobby Abreu, who hit a two-run triple off DiNardo and a three-run home run off rookie Abe Alvarez.

Also, here's the DirtDog's blunt take on the situation:

Lenny DiNardo is No Poor Man's Bronson Arroyo
Lefty Can't Get Out of the Third Inning This Time

Can he hit like Bronson?

This weekend, the Sox interleague games start with a series in Philly. We'll see Papi in the field and DiNardo at the plate. I Love This Game....or wait...This Game is Good...what's MLB's slogan? Anyway, Lenny's looking forward to his first plate appearance:

Lenny DiNardo, scheduled to pitch and hit Sunday at Philadelphia, has never had a major league at-bat. But, on his way to take batting practice yesterday, DiNardo stopped to say he does have experience hitting in a big-league park. ''In BP at Fenway two years ago the first ball I hit went into the visitors' bullpen," DiNardo said. ''I don't know if I'm a 5 o'clock hitter or what."

To The Bullpen

Computer_cobweb I have been a bad blogger.

Not only have I posted NOTHING at all. But I have failed to blog about Lenny's first big-league win, about David Wells's statement that he'd rather have Lenny get his starts if he doesn't feel up to par, and all the great Lenny quotes that have come out of the last few weeks.

My excuses: law school exams, the kentucky derby, the outer banks, this other kid that I'm trying to get out of jail, guided tour of the supreme court. Basically, I've been neglecting The Lenny DiNardo Blog for selfish, awesome reasons.

So, in another lame post, here's the most recent news: Lenny has been moved back to the bullpen. For a short time...mostly because of the rainout. Tito:

"Lenny goes to the bullpen for the foreseeable future," Francona said Sunday. "We'll have Clement on Friday in Philadelphia and then either Beckett-DiNardo or DiNardo-Beckett. They're going to pitch Saturday and Sunday. I just don't know what order yet."

So, here's a belated congratulations to Lenny on his first win. Only 191 more to catch Clemens and Cy Young.  I'll leave you with a good DiNardo quote. Upon hearing that last Saturday's victory was the first of his career:

''I was just sitting on the couch looking through the game notes [and realized it]," he said. ''Really cool."

Rainout Ripple

Lenny's start pushed to Sunday:

Instead of Matt Clement facing Toronto ace Roy Halladay (3-1, 2.84 ERA) tonight and Lenny DiNardo facing Josh Towers (0-5, 10.45 ERA) tomorrow, Beckett will face Halladay tonight in a marquee matchup, while Clement will oppose Towers.

DiNardo will be pushed back to Sunday against the Orioles on seven days' rest. Didn't seem to make much difference to him.

''All they told me is I'm starting Sunday," he said.

His reaction?

''OK, cool, I'll pitch again."
