Our old friend, Jeff Horrigan, brings us bad, bad news on the DiNardo front:
It doesn’t look like Lenny DiNardo will be able to help the Red Sox anytime soon. The left-hander, who hasn’t pitched since May 21 due to a strained neck, struggled in his first rehab game at Pawtucket tonight and removed himself from the game without retiring a batter.
DiNardo allowed the first three Charlotte batters to reach base via a walk and two singles before surrendering a grand slam to Casey Rogowski. He then threw a ball to the next batter before leaving due to continued discomfort. DiNardo is scheduled to be examined by Red Sox doctors tomorrow.
Good luck, D.
Lenny DiNardo has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Breslow on the 40-man roster. DiNardo will pitch tomorrow night at Pawtucket.
From the Edes "Mailbag" today:
| Nick_P | Gordon, everyone talks about Wells, Foulke, and Clement. Any word on Lenny DiNardo? I know that he wasn't great shakes as a starter, but it would be nice to have a second lefty in the bullpen. I haven't heard any updates on him in a while. |
| Gordon_Edes | Nick, I ran into Lenny at Logan on the day the Sox embarked on their last road trip--he was headed to Fort Myers to rehab his neck injury. "We've got to take care of this,'' he said. He's obviously not pitching in games yet, so he's still weeks away from coming back. I suspect Tito will offer an update tonight. |
Good question Nick_P...keep the news rolling.
Boston.com has their "Midseason Report" where fans grade the individual Sox players...Lenny is languishing with a C-/D+. And for some reason, Boston.com has a picture of DiNardo looking like he's about to spit...what's that about? I didn't even think that was him.
Go vote and give him at least a B...
Even though Lenny is still rehabbing from his neck injury, he's set to rock out at tonight's Hot
Stove/Cool Music show. The Herald has a good article about his musical tastes...turns out he's not the Arroyo-Lite that folks seem to think...he's more Spoon-lite, perhaps
DiNardo, who’s spent most of this season on the injured list, will be the first to tell you that, musically, he’s no Arroyo.
“I thought Bronson was great,” DiNardo said by phone last week. “He’s really into it. It takes a lot of salt to get up onstage and perform. I wish I had the talent.”
Unlike Arroyo, whose taste seems to have stalled in the grunge era, DiNardo favors less commercial and infinitely more hip worlds of indie and college rock.
“Bronson’s a little more interested in contemporary hard rock,” DiNardo said. “That’s where our tastes diverge. To be completely honest, I don’t listen to the radio. I don’t think there’s anything good there.”
Several years ago (2003), the highlight of my spring was the preseason hot stove/cool music concert, where I inexplicably had a VIP pass...I was rather intoxicated, hanging with Damon, Wake, Theo...and by hanging...I mean making them uncomfortable --
Hot Stove/Cool Music will always bring back fond memories.
